Liberation Day

Seventy years today, the Channel Islands were liberated from nearly 5 years of German occupation. Even though it's over 25 years since I lived in Guernsey, I still celebrate Liberation Day every year.

My parents both remember 9 May 1945, even though they were only 8 at the time, and can still recall many stories from those war time years. I wish I was in Guernsey this weekend to help them celebrate, but having spoken to them this evening, I know they've had a lovely day.
