The Golden Roof

SwissPiper and I had an enjoyable weekend in Innsbruck at the end of her bike and boat trip along the Danube. The city of Innsbruck overlooked by spectacular mountains is very ancient and the old part of the town is beautiful. Emperor Maximillian 1 commissioned the rebuilding of this structure in 1491 so that he could watch the tournaments taking place in the square below. The roof of this two-storey oriel is adorned with more that 2600 gilded copper tiles.
