The Little mermaid

The conference began at 9am until 6pm then we caught the metro to the city for some more sightseeing. We wandered down beautiful Nyhavn again admiring the colourful houses then had a walk along the river past the theatre. We then past Amelienborg (the winter residence of the royal family) and saw the royal guards who wear tall bearskin hats like the guards at Buckingham palace. We wandered past the impressive Marmorkirkem (marble church) which is based on St Peters cathedral.

We walked to the north of the harbour to see The Little Mermaid, Copenhagens most famous symbol. Created in 1913 by sculptor Edvard Eriksen from the Hans Christian Andersen story.

We walked home via Nyhavn and then home via the ice)cream shop, which had a queue all along the street despite it being 10pm on a Friday night! It really is amazing ice-cream though :)
