British Whites

So here they are - after an absence of 70 years and a long campaign cattle are once again grazing on the commons. These are our (ok they actually belong to the Sussex Wildlife Trust) British Whites a breed that's been around since the 17th century, large compact hornless cattle. They are mostly white with mottled grey or reddish colouring and black points, muzzle, nose and feet. They thrive on very poor pasture such as heathland which, combined with their docile nature, makes them ideal for conservation grazing. They seem to be settling in well enough so we can go off to our Jubilee 'street' party and leave them to it.
