Queen of May
My favourite! We have two mature May trees in the garden, a pink one, with a few young ones coming along. The flowers seem to exemplify the gorgeousness of this fantastic month - crataegus monogyna is its botanical name. It may be wonderful, but it is the most common hedgerow shrub in the UK.
Apart from providing for birds and small animals, the May tree provides food for more than 150 different insect species!!
The RSBP states that this tree is a valuable addition to any wildlife garden.
Our garden is definitely a wildlife garden!!
