Matlock Bath
Cable car 554ft from base to top > 30-minute walk up and down Masson Cavern > Masson Hill
It is my first time today to (sort of) climb a 1,111ft hill in Matlock Bath, called Masson Hill. The top of the hill was beautiful that this photo does not really do justice to the beauty I saw when i was there.
Arrived at Matlock Bath by 1130am and had an English breakfast before visiting all the attractions. Spent most of my time at the Heights of Abraham where I took a cable car ride to get to the top of the hill. I joined two cavern tours, Masson and Rutland Cavern Tours. It was quite tricky to go down to the Rutland Cavern as the path to the area was sooo steep. It was exhausting to go down the hill and even more exhausting to go up back to the top. It was all good though because we were treated to nice stories and the history of the miners' lives back in the 17th century. In this photo, I was literally sitting on top of a cavern!
Strange but quite flattering things happened to me today. Before the start of the Masson Cavern tour, there was this little cute boy about 2-3 years old in the tour. I was sitting on a bench waiting for the tour to start when he insisted (to his mom) that he be seated on the same bench. We were about 2 feet apart on the bench when he started scooching towards me and actually sat right next to me until he was practically touching me. He then looked at me and gave me his most beautiful smile, seemingly quite shy about what he did but at the same time not afraid to show that he was really pleased with it as well. I didnt want to be all creepy and so I only said "Hello, how are you?". Of course he just smiled and we could have talked more if not for the tour guide who was already calling out for the tourists. The mom just laughed at what his son did. Then, at the end of the day before heading back to the coach, I had fish and chips in a restaurant (you'll notice that I was so British today!). I was happily eating away my fish when another 3-4y old little boy who was waiting for his mom sat right in front of me. His mom saw him and told him to not disturb "the lady" but just like the little boy in the tour, this little boy was smiling from ear to ear and looks very happy to sit in front of me while watching me eat. I said again "Hi there!" and he sort of hid his face in his hands looking very embarassed. What is it today with little boys getting all enamoured over me?? LOL
