Phoenix Town

Today we moved from Zhangjiajie to Phoenix Town, a 3 hour bus ride away. Phoenix Town  was the home of Shen Congwen who wrote the book 'Border Town' it was banned under Mao's regime, the book is a story set in rural China before the revolution. Grade 7 have been studying this book in their Chinese literature class. Ive read the translated version. I think that the quality of writing is lost in the translation, because it seemed to lack something to me.
However it was interesting to see Shen Congwen's  house and glimpse his way of life.
Phoenix Town itself is beautiful, but a little 'touristy'. I really enjoyed seeing a different side of China to our Beijing life.
