Gloria of Littlewoods

Another wonderfully sunny day and more visitors in today than have been in lately - 200, which for us is pretty good. I've spent the day with our Woodlands Manager who is based up at Inverewe, going through our Tree Survey and updating the records. It may seem a  waste of time, but if something lands on a visitor's head and we can't produce up-to-date records showing that any suspicious trees have been checked, we're for the chop!

Thought I'd Blip another rhododendron or azalea! For those who find it difficult to distinguish one from the other, here's one to confuse you even further. This is Rhododendron 'Glory of Littleworth', which is a hybrid between a rhododendron and an azalea, if they weren't both rhododendrons!  To try to explain, it's a hybrid between a deciduous rhododendron of the Azalea subsection and an evergreen rhododendron of another  subsection. Or something like that!

The reason for the title above stems from the time when we were ordering labels for our shrubs some years ago. The lady who made the labels was a friend of my First Gardener at the time, and made one with this slightly incorrect name for a joke. The label was put out on the shrub and the 'mistake' not recognised for some time!
