Peek - a - Boo

This pileated woodpecker  was in my neighbor's yard this Am and we scared him as we were leaving for our walk. He flew over my head and off to the other side of the road into some trees. I completely missed getting a shot. Coming back , he was at the same spot ,"grubbing" in the stump. Every few seconds his head would pop up over the edge of the stump and his beak would be full of grubs. A pileated woodpecker is a large bird, crow sized , with a wingspan of up to 29 inches. They  are not common though they are fairly widespread across the northern US. It's always fun to see one.
