A walk in Mad Bess Wood

We went for a walk through Mad Bess Wood in Ruislip this afternoon. The wood is apparently named after a demented old woman who was the wife of an eighteenth century gamekeeper and used to prowl the the woods at night looking for poachers. It's quite a nice walk, though not particularly exciting, as woodland walks tend to be a bit boring in my view. This photo is taken from the edge of the wood looking west across open countryside towards Harefield..
