Jubilee in Two Fords

The village of Twyford lies a few miles to the East of Reading. The name means "two fords", and it used to be a crossing point on the road to London, particularly for the transportation of wool.

The village retains much of its character depute being quite close to Reading and very much in the London commuter belt. in the rush hour a train to London from Twyford takes about 35 minutes.

There are several quite interesting buildings in the village, I hope I did not feature the same ones the last time I posted a building from Twyford. One of the most interesting is the Almshouses built in 1640. It is difficult to get a good shot of the Almshouses, I will manage one of these day. I don't know the origin of either of the two houses I have featured today, but they look pretty old, and certainly have character.

In the evening there was a Jubilee fete in the village, and the church bells have just been ringing in honour of the Jubilee. One of the attractions of Twyford is, despite being so close to London and Reading, it still manages to retain its own feel of being a self contained country village.
