Ebbing Tide at St Leonards
After the rain yesterday, we checked the forcast and decided that if we wanted a Bank Holiday trip out then it would have to be today. Our original destination was to be Smallhythe Place, a National Trust property near Rye in Kent, but I decided to take a quick detour to the coast first.
We started off at Greatstone near Romney, where the high tide was just on the turn, and with the offshore breeze, the sea was "quite lively". Mum sat in the car in the warm while I took my first few shots of the day.
Moving on down the coast we ended up at Dungerness with sandwiches overlooking the shingle wilderness dotted with fishing huts, shacks and what have you, dominated by the Dungerness power station and lighthouses. I took another set of shots, including an iconic fishing vessal on the beach, with which I hope to have a play with some HDR treatment.
By now Smallhythe was but at distant thought as we continued drifting westward across the Romney Marshes and along the coast road to Hastings (no longer the quaint seaside town of my youth), and ended up on the promenade at St Leonards with an Ice Cream in the by now barmy late afternoon.
By now the tide was well on its way out and the sea had calmed down - virtually disappearing into the horizon. It is this view which I have chosen for today's blip, as a peaceful, barmy reminder of our day.
