A deep hole

This is one of many deep holes that have been dug and then filled in again in our garden over the last few days.  They dig the hole, then basically put the soil back in "upside down" - topsoil underneath, subsoil on top.

The end result is suitably poor soil for a wild flower meadow to thrive.
