Across the Forth from Porty
Work took me to St Andrews today.
It was a cold, monochrome day, but the magical atmosphere of this ancient seat of learning former capital of Scotland and birthplace of the game of golf never fails to disappoint.
Our daughter was a student here for four years and we were fairly frequent visitors during that time. Now it was my turn to be working in this ancient city and it was a good excuse for Tiggy to accompany me and for us to enjoy a scenic route home round the Neuk of Fyfe in the afternoon.
There used to be a hovercraft that crossed from Portobello to Burntisland. It did not last long which is a pity as that would have been a much quicker way to get from here to St Andrews today!
The Open is being held on The Old Course in July. The stands and delivery areas are already in full swing - pun unintended - and reminds me of similar activities in the summer of 2013 when the Open took place along the East Lothian coast at Gullane ( Muirfield)*.
* £210 for one round and £270 for two rounds on the day.
