The Red Lichtie

Mitten Unter Uns

(In Our Midst)

We all (14 of us!) went for a fun weekend in Frankfurt but this was one of the first things we saw as we had a first wander round the town and found the riverside festival where we would spend out evenings.

The blue striped material on the trees both along the river and which we later saw in other places in the city is an art project by Stefanie Grohs which remembers a concentration camp 'Katzbach' inside the city of Frankfurt where 1600 prisoners died over the course of the 7 months it was open after being made to work beyond the point of exhaustion and given none of the basic human rights. It was a sobering thought to think that 1600 of these strips were all over the city.
