Solace day 6.
Another wet day! As we were working through the locks we met another boat going in the opposite direction. During the general chat and exchange of pleasantries the helmsman stated "it's drier in the tunnel"! Unless you have been through a canal tunnel this may not mean much to you but canal tunnels are generally plagued by drainage from above making them rather damp to say the least.
The shot shows the north entrance and just to the right the entrance to the now un-navigable "Brindley Tunnel". Before anyone asks, the colour of the water are correct. The water there and for a couple of miles north is stained by iron in the water. Strangely there is no sign to the south and I assume the water flow due to the locks is northward.
Solace is waiting in the queue (of one) for the tunnel to be empty so we can pass through. We were the first boat going south that day but 3 came through heading north as we waited. The shot is taken from the "turnover bridge". A turnover bridge is one designed to allow the horse (pulling the narrowboat) to walk up and over this is so that the towpath can change sides.
