Aronia planting at East Hampton
It is a slow job but faster and certainly better than the
back breaking alternative. Mike, the farmer, on the left
drives the tractor and the implement digs out two
furrows and fills them in again after his two faithful
relations sit in relative comfort enjoying a bumpy
ride on the implement as they drop in the Aronia
plants. This does not come without a very significant
capital outlay as irrigation pipes have been laid which
is essential as this is very sandy ground. But there there
is plentiful water below and plenty of sunshine above -
ideal conditions I understand for growing Aronia whose
berries have three times the health benefits of the
blueberry. This has been an educational visit indeed.
