Juxtaposition
I do like the way Exeter has developed with glimpses of the old castle walls and ancient buildings being preserved among the new buildings.
This view shows the ruins of Almshouses adjacent to St Catherine's Chapel ruins with Exeter Cathedral in the background and a more modern building in the shopping mall, just visible to one side.
The Almshouses were founded in 1457 to house thirteen poor men. Later on the Chapel became a carpenter's shop and the almshouses were divided into two, to provide accommodation for elderly women. It was bombed during WW2 in the Exeter Blitz on May 1942. It was subsequently decided that the ruins should be kept as a remembrance.
A day of shopping in the sun. We have at last found a traditional coffee maker that can be used on induction hobs, this should make the whole coffee making process a lot easier.
