Lewisham Market
Visited Lewisham this afternoon for a meeting. I've been through and around Lewisham many times but never stopped. Well, I didn't have much time to stop today. I thought there would be plenty of time after the meeting for an interesting blip but it turned out that I only had 10 minutes before the car park ticket expired - so this was the one and only shot.
I always find markets like these fascinating and colourful - and cheap. Wandering aound the fruit and veg you see that the prices are often half of what you might pay from a supermarket - a kilogram of cherry tomatoes for £1 for instance. We have a market in Maidstone on a Tuesday but it is the other side of town. It seems to defeat the object if you have to jump into the car to drive somewhere to pick up cheap veg. We do have a "farmers market" on the village green but it's not a market like this one, veg seem more expensive and there are many goods for sale that don't come from farms.
Had a very good run around Mote Park this morning, the weather was sparkly bright and sunny with the birds singing, such an uplifiting experience. Why is it then that I passed so many people with headphones stuck in their ears?
