Jubilee Fun Day

What a great day! We were up early again setting up stalls and getting everything ready for the fun-day which started at midday. It was drizzling during the morning so everyone had their fingers crossed that blue skies would appear and they did. The day started with the Cork Race which involves five hundred mini cork boats which have been purchased and built by villagers put into the stream. We then we all follow them down from one bridge to the other to see who wins!

We had lots going on throughout the day including dancing dogs, zumba, wheelbarrow races, welly wanging, raffles, tombola, fancy dress, singing, a hog roast, barbecue and of course a WI cake stall and the very popular cheap bar. I was very proud as Dad was also in the Morris Dancing display and did so well and he had a bad knee. Their second performance was a little less coordinated and they had all been in the beer tent! Matt and I were selling tickets to win a wheelbarrow full of booze and raised over £200 towards the Village hall and all the local clubs that use it. There must have been a few thousand people turn up and such a strong sense of community and occasion. It was a tiring day as we had all been busy rushing about helping but we should have raised over £2000 towards the village. There was dancing and drinking late into the evening and it has been a very special Jubilee celebration.
