tempus fugit

Set in stone

Another marvellous day in the company of Kendall and Sue. Despite a damp start the sun had triumphed by mid-morning as we rocketed along the twisting coastal lanes in a shuttle bus that visited half a dozen seaside hamlets  before reaching the tiny city of St David's.
Cupped in a gentle inland hollow the 12th century cathedral sparkled in the brilliant light that illuminates this wind-scoured peninsular.  The industry, expertise and devotion of its ancient builders and craftspeople is manifest in every inch of the cathedral making it a monument to sheer human endeavour quite apart from any religious import it may or may not hold for visitors.

The curious carved-oak misericords  of the choir stalls hold a peculiar attraction for me with their depictions of 'secular or pagan images and scenes, entirely at odds with the Christian iconography and aesthetic that surround them' so I've added a few extra images of those along with a closer view of the two best-beloved blippers in whose company it has been my privilege to spend this memorable couple of days. They are standing on the bridge across the little River Alun as it runs between the cathedral and the now-ruined Bishop's Palace but the symbolism must surely signify the incredible  link that Blipfoto has made possible, between north-west America and south-west Wales.
