Oosterscheldekering
The Oosterscheldekering (in English: Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier), between the islands Schouwen-Duiveland and Noord-Beveland, is the largest of the 13 Delta Works series of dams and storm surge barriers, designed to protect the Netherlands from flooding from the North Sea.
The coastal drive southwards (once we eventually navigated our way out of The Hague and round the fringes of Rotterdam) is certainly more pleasant than just driving up from Ghent, even if we did get slightly lost again as we cut across towards Bruges
