Technology - old and new
It's been a big travelling day today as we are now in Chalons en Champagne, a good distance into France. Tomorrow will be another long drive as we hope to get to Provence.
Technophobe has listed the various IT disasters today, not all of which were anything to do with me.
I installed a couple of new bits of IT kit into the motorhome before we cam away.
One is a 3G/4G 'MiFi' router that allows us to connect to the internet on the move. It uses a 'Three' SIM card that provides cheap data abroad. All went well with TP surfing the web on her iPad as we drove down the motorway. We were able to find that we were actually on the same Chunnel train as another Blipper FreckledFace.
Unfortunately, as we were driving down the Autoroute the motorhome was suddenly filled with white acrid smoke. It transpired that the USB power adapter that was supplied with the router had caught fire. Luckily it stopped as soon as Jane pulled it out of the socket but sadly the router no longer works. It's really annoying as it is only a few days old and I can't send it back till we return. A lucky escape!
The other gadget is more successful. It's a WiFi booster that connects to WiFi on the campsite and rebroadcasts it to our devices. It has two advantages, firstly it has a high gain antenna and can connect to weak WiFi. Secondly, many campsites sell WiFi on a per device basis. With the booster we only use one connection to the WiFi and we can connect any number of devices to it. It works really well and we are doing our Blips on it as I type.
OK - I admit it - I'm a geeky nerd but technology is useful sometimes!
We went for a trip down memory lane tonight as we ate out in a Courte Paille restaurant. As a family travelling in France years ago we used to love Courte Pailles. Great value!
This tractor was in a field just outside our campsite
