Sunrise on White

It has been a day of not getting a lot done around the house. First of all I had acupuncture which took most of the morning. I had just enough time to have my lunch and it was out again to the Peddle class with my freind. After class I spent some time at my friends place as she needed someone to talk to.

After dropping my friend off I was going to stop of in the city to get a few shots. It was just too late and the light was going as It has been a really gloomy, damp day again today. So my pot of wonderful Pansies came to the rescue. I have a few different colours but thought the white one looked so lovely with its sunshine face. The extra shot is the Pansy before I had a play with it.

History of the Pansy
The pansy is named from the French word pensée, which means thought. It is probably named that because the flower petals often resemble a human face and nod forward as if thinking deeply. Its relative, Viola, was named by Greeks in the 4th century B.C.E. and was cultivated for its medicinal properties. Wild pansies lived in alpine meadows and on rocky ledges, and had larger and rounder flowers than the viola.

Uses of Pansies
Both the leaves and flowers of pansies and violas are edible and high in vitamins A and C. The flowers impart a strong flavour and have been used to make syrup, flavoured honey and salads. Both the leaves and flowers can be used as a garnish, such as on cold fruit or cream soups. The flowers are also useful as a dye.
