Lily of the Valley

Convallaria majalis. This little beauty has a very beautiful fragrance. Yet to grow well it needs poor soil. In the South of England it favours ancient woods on sandy, acidic soils. But in the North and West it likes limestone woods and lightly wooded limestone pavements.
All parts of the plant are highly poisonous and act on the heart in the same way as Digitalis (Foxglove).
