Chicken of the Woods.

Laetiporus sulphureus.

Three years ago when some savings were earning nothing Mrs.K. and decided to buy a bit of ancient woodland on limestone pavement purely to help to conserve it.

This is one of our rewards. Its name stems from the fact that it is said to taste and cook like chicken when it is young, as this one is.

However it should never be eaten if it is growing, as here, on a Yew tree. It is quite a good size and over the next few weeks it will get bigger and tougher.
