Coming up roses
After several years being in deep shit, we have finally, finally, finally emerged at the end of a dark tunnel which always had the tiniest glimmer of light at the end of it but we were never very sure whether that was the light of hope or a massive locomotive heading our way.
About a year ago we paid off the mortgage on our small, tatty, lovely home and yesterday we paid off the remaining related bank loan. We now have absolutely no debt whatsoever. I am earning the same now as I was back in 1997 but that's fine. It pays all our living costs, there is money left over to save and I love my job.
Rol's erratic income from doing non-religious ceremonies is a bonus. And as he isn't working or studying full time he has got the time to spare to sort out project manage the work that needs doing on our house: stuff that should have been done years ago but we never had the money to do it with.
The sun is shining, the roses in our wild, tiny front garden are blooming and I am bursting with gratitude.
