Off with his head!
King Edmund of East Angles (East Anglia) or Edmund the Martyr ruled the Kingdom from 25 December 855 to 20 November 869. He was only 14 when he became King and was killed by the Danes when he refused to renounce Christ ... They beat him, shot him with arrows and then beheaded him.
This statue is found next to the Cathedral and Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds (now you know where the name came from!!). My sister and I enjoyed a couple of lovely hours around there this afternoon where we both enjoyed taking lots of photos ... Some more arty than others!! I am now trying to convert her from Instagram to here ..!!!
