Pond update

So, the underlay and liner are down, roughly trimmed and it's filled with water. "Only" task left is to line the edge with rocks, trim the liners and backfill with soil, then the planting can begin. Perhaps another 3 or 4 hours work?

Otherwise spent the day doing lots of different things; new tyres on the car, complete MOT test, swimming (not in the pond) writing a letter, telephone calls and a conference call, a visit to the hospital to check on my knee, cooking, visiting the allotment (strawberries ready to pick) and a couple of hours relaxing watching TV, some of that time asleep on the couch.

Been a big fire today in Maidstone, on Week Street, the main street. An arsonist torched a shop at around 2.00am and the fire spread to the shops either side. Took most of the day to make sure the fire was out, even at 10.30pm crews were still damping down and soaking flames that refused to die. It was a bookshop so there was plenty of paper to fuel the fire.

That's the third fire over the weekend - we had the minor lineside fires on the railway, then there was a massive fire in Medway at a rubbish dump. Black smoke could apparently be seen in London and I certainly saw it coming home from Tenterden which is over 25 miles from the fire location.
