Times Of My Life

Who's the Daddy?

You nearly got a stunning shot of the River Tay and the Tay Valley taken from high up on the Rhynd road, to the south of Perth. But, when I arrived at my friend Sandra's house (she has the good fortune to overlook that beautiful view) I discovered my camera battery had died.

Instead, you have a wee picture of her Jack Russell, Broo, who may or may not be Rocky's daddy.

We are not 100% sure, because when he had a hot date with Rocky's mum back in 2007, he was not observed to have - ahem; 'performed', and indeed appeared to have been more interested in playing 'Chase me' with her.

Sadly, after only that one date she spurned him for another chap, and shortly after that short engagement, she was found to be - so to speak - 'Up the Duff'.

Rocky and his four siblings were born on Easter Sunday 24th March 2008.  We had lost our lovely old Jack the December before, so when Sandra told me that her friend's dog had a litter of five puppies, I was ready to go along and be convinced that I needed one of them.  It was hard to choose between Rocky and one of his sisters, who was exactly the same size and shape as him, but she was black while he looked like a little overcooked sausage - brown, with a black stripe right down his back.

After a bit of consideration, we decided to take him because he was the keenest to get out of his box and climb all over us, making piteous whining and crying noises all the while.  Lesson: Do not take the pup which does this!  It turned out he was the dominant puppy, and he has been pretty noisy and demanding ever since.  I often wonder, wistfully, how the little bitch turned out.

Anyway, as time went on our little dog began to exhibit a few strange mannerisms which I had never seen our old boy do.  I mentioned them to Sandra, and she was astonished because her wee Broo had those same habits.  We decided not to press ahead with a request for a DNA test, but I reckon that we both know what the results would be if we had!
