Sweet Fragrance

Out walking today as part of my daily exercise  routine, I couldn’t resist the sight of honeysuckle growing in the hedgerows surrounding our local recreation ground and cricket  pitch.
At one time we had some growing in our back garden, climbing on a fence, and partly disguising the fence itself. We moved it to the front garden to fullfill much the same role, but sadly it has never taken off as well in its fresh location.
Yet, here we are today, discovering honeysuckle growing in the wild, in hedgerows and making an equally attractive display, and of course, leaving the distinctive pleasing fragrance in the air.
I always felt sad that we had to move the one in the garden, but at the time needs must, to make way for other shrubs. It’s an abundant climber and is ideal for providing cover for a fence, or climbing a frame on a wall. In its fresh location it is still a vigorous climber, yet appears to have lost the the ability to produce the abundance of blooms it once possessed.

So the appearance of vines like this in the hedgerow just across the recreation ground is rewarding.  Just wish the one in my garden was as prolific in flowers.
