Twin goals
Getting to the Ravensbourne university college for my granddaughter Vittoria’s three day Degree Show, allowed me to make my first visit to the O2 arena.
I have been past the Greenwich peninsular on many occasions, crossing the Thames by way of the Blackwall Tunnel, but had never actually visited or the seen the arena in the flesh.
Several years ago I made an annual visit to the old Royal Naval College at Greenwich, but always bypassing the peninsular, and from the M25 motorway the Blackwall Tunnel always provided the most direct road route to the Excel exhibition centre, on the northern side of the river, and home for the London Boat Show each January.
From the start of her three year degree course in Interior Design Environment Architectures in the college’s Department of Architecture, Vittoria had told me of the proximity to the O2, but until my visit this week, I had not appreciated just how close. It’s slap bang next door and as you stand in the College’s entrance, the O2 dominates your view right in front of you.
So for me the trip this week was a double achievement — primarily to see Vittoria’s project work at first hand and see something of the college, but also allowing me to fulfill the ambition of visiting the O2 arena, even if not for a show.
