Orange Crush

Hydrated iron oxide in the earth gives you the pigment ochre, with added haematite you get redder shades. Roussillon in Provence is built on a great mountain of the stuff and has been the centre of the ochre industry and a huge lure for artists for many years. We love the place and went there again today by bike from where we are staying in Gordes. A twenty mile hilly bike ride on a very hot day.
We're going to go for a cooling swim now, possibly followed by a beer. Or two.
