Built on the side of a mountain

The road goes up and up with houses on each the side. All attractive although built in close proximity and we wonder if owned by locals, Spanish, English?

On the way up there is one place collapsing, a gap between the road and driveway with most of the building in ruins, we wonder what caused this.

Apparently mountain goats come along and eat the hibiscus along the roadside, we may hear them munching at night.
