Dizzibirds at the fete
Blipolar tells me I'm 1095 today. I'm holding back on the celebrations. I started my daily journal on 15 July, 2012, so it's not my third birthday quite yet. Still, who'd have thought I'd last this long?
Busy morning today, catching up on stuff and trying to make a phone call while surrounded by heavy traffic....eventually I got to my school, where the fete was more or less set up and ready to go. Selling started early, and the rain held off at this point. I dashed off around the stalls as I knew I didn't have long to do anything, because I was due at the old art school at 2pm.
This shot features a handmade hairclip accessory from my very talented colleague, S, who is leaving this year after almost 30 years as a speech and language therapist. She's busy launching her business as a maker of amazing accessories and knitted animals. Her range can be seen by searching for 'dizzibirds' at www.etsy.com. I always seek out her work at craft fairs because it's different from anything else out there. We own a few of her knitted sheep already, and today I chose a blue hair ornament, which you can't see because it's on my head right now! Have given up on hair as I can't get an appointment until 1st July so it's just all piled up on top, with the fringe plaited because it would be at my knees otherwise....
At the life class at which I model, I caught up with some contacts, people I haven't seen for years. I won't say the time flew by, but I got out at the right time, and bumped into my colleague J, who said it HAD rained at the fete, but there was enough room in the marquees for everyone to shelter. Let's hope they got some tea and cakes while they waited for the sun to reappear....
Came home struggling under the weight of all the stuff I'd bought. CleanSteve had gone out looking for kingfishers. I started making raspberry buttercream filling for the macaron shells I'd defrosted yesterday. I melted some dark chocolate and tried to do the drizzling thing with a piping bag, but it's still coming out in fat worms for me. Who cares, though? I have to say they taste the same as their posher-looking cousins. I bought a book online about macarons today. Guess I'm hooked. Almonds have always been one of my favourite foods.
Now I really have to go to Bed, with a capital B, because it's nearly midnight and I've been fading for hours. Nights are so hot at the moment that I've unearthed the 5-tog summer duvet, to prevent myself waking up on fire every hour. I expect the muggy weather will now move on ;)
