London King's Cross Station - Gateway to the North
.... or escape from the South.
Passing though King's Cross station today, the great façade of King's Cross station looked impressively resplendent. Since it was originally opened as the London terminus for the Great Northern Railway in 1852 the area in front has been obstructed with various buildings and features. The last of these was the hideous structure built in 1972 which was thankfully removed in 2013 giving the station its first public square in its 160 year history.
An interesting set of photos of the frontage over the years can be seen here.
Prior to the creation of this new open space, the new passenger concourse opened to the left of the main station in March 2012, which has already been blipped many times.
