juvenile peregrine

I had a bit of peregrine time before work this morning, its good to see the juveniles flying so strongly. This one was just going into a dive chasing a pigeon. I don't think they have caught anything yet but they are having some good practice.

Some weeks ago I reported that the 3rd peregrine chick had fallen off the nest and died. It was given to Derbyshire Wildlife who have conducted an autopsy and found the chick had Trichomoniasis which is like pigeon canker, a growth in the mouth. Apparently it was probably caught by eating an affected pigeon and there is now concern that any of the other 4 birds may also have it. There is no sign that any of them are having difficulty eating or losing weight so lets hope all is OK.

From the peregrines I took the alternative road into work to see if the little owl was at his favourite spot and sure enough he was albeit trying to hide behind a sign.

3 more sleeps and then we are off t Sorrento for a week, bring it on !!
