Installation of the new University Chancellor
I attended a ceremony today for the installation of the University's new Chancellor, Lady Frances Sorrell. The position of chancellor is largely ceremonial, though the person appointed normally has some status from the world of business, or the arts or politics etc. It's the Vice Chancellor who is the executive head of the university and 'the boss'.
Frances Sorrell ran a very successful design business with her husband, and subsequently they co-founded the Sorrell Foundation, an organisation which promotes creativity amongst young people.
The ceremony was at St. Marylebone Church, just a few yards down the Marylebone Road from our campus. This photo shows the new chancellor and the Chair of the Court of Governors shaking hands with everyone as they were leaving the church.
