My mother always used to remind us that her birthday was, "exactly six months from Christmas". And so it comes to pass that today is Mom's birthday, and although she has been gone for many years, I never fail to think of her on this day. Happy Birthday, Mom…I miss you.

*I've had this snapshot of Mom on my desk for years. It was taken on one of her last visits to us in Berkeley. I've always been very fond of it.
