Not Beer
If I had to choose one white wine to drink the rest of my life, it would be Picpoul de Pinet, found in the Languedoc region of France where Phil and I have been seven times and where a piece of my heart will always be.
So here in Portland---this beer Mecca---when I saw this inexpensive bottle of Picpoul at the grocery store yesterday, I added it to our purchases. It was much too hot tonight to go out for an evening meal, so we made do with warmed-up pizza left over from last night's meal out, plus quite a few fresh Washington state cherries, and this bottle of wine.
We've been reminiscing about our holidays in the Languedoc and other places, and making plans to attend a beer festival on Saturday despite the forecasted high of 100 F., and talking about the beers and food we enjoyed at two breweries today, and having a wonderfully relaxed evening together, which is what going on vacation is really all about.
(The name of this 2014 wine, "Domitia," refers to the Via Domitia, the first Roman road built in Gaul, constructed in 118 B.C. between Italy and Spain. It passed through the heart of the Languedoc by the Picpoul vineyards on the banks of the Bassin de Thau.)
