Privileged!
After breakfast, the bird watch group, went off to the East side of the island, Anton Meehan, a resident & interested birdwatcher came along & talked about the birds, wildlife & life on Tory Island. One of the things he told us was when he was a boy, he was given puffins to play with, that would not be PC today, nor would eating them which islanders used to do to eek out their food supplies, life was tough & still is on the island. Idyllic on a lovely summer's day, but very harsh conditions to be endured throughout the year.
At 1st we saw 2 puffins on the water, then more along the cliffs & then a colony of 300 or more (hard to count), it was such a privilege to see these beautiful birds.
