A bastard in my favourite valley.
Today I walked in my favourite valley called Anchor Bottom, so named because many, many years ago it was where the boats coming up-river could be moored. Now it is one of those wonderful sweeping valleys full of wild flowers, quite rare birds and butterflies. Just inside the swing gate I found three different orchids: Common spotted, Fragrant and Bee. But to come to my 'bastard'. As you can see it is a very tiny flower, very difficult to find and in very small quantities when you do. So I was very pleased when I found a tiny patch today, such a sweet little flower with a green centre, and you can easily pass it by because it hides itself in the grass around it-but it is called Bastard Toadflax! Not a name it deserves in my opinion!
