Kids in Lyon Fountain
We took a bus into the center of town today, mainly to see the Basilica of Saint-Martin d'Ainay, a relatively small church (despite its name). It's the "primary example of Romanesque architecture in Lyon" (according to our ornithologist friend David) who spent a year here in 1969-70. We found it quite wonderful, since we arrived during Sunday mass. It was packed, with children and babies everywhere (at least from our viewpoint standing in the back)--reminiscent of our experience at a mass in Lucca last March.
Returning to our hotel I took this image from a bus rounding a corner (just one shot!). It was hot--probably around 90˚ F (32˚C), though with low humidity and thus surprisingly bearable. But it's supposed to get still warmer in the next few days, into the low 100˚s. Stay tuned; we rent a car tomorrow to head for Burgundy and more Romanesque :)
