Look at His Throat!

Such an extraordinary looking tiny thing, the Ruby-throated Hummingbird. And the red throat feathers just look black or dark maroon or even brown when he turns and the sun hits them differently.

Edit: Adding a photo from yesterday of a male Hummer sitting on a line on our porch with clothespins as a frame of reference so you can see how small they are. It was raining hard at the time - I have another photo where he's actually puffed his feathers up to stay warm, which is pretty cute.
