Edinburgh Day 4
It had stopped raining!! A leisurely breakfast with brother then he headed off down south and we went to find the air bnb we were staying in for the last day. It was just off Calton Hill so once bags deposited we explored the hill and all its breath-taking sights. This is the National Monument and Nelson's tower in the background. There are also yet more interesting cemetaries in the area and an awful lot of hills and steps.
We then had a luncheon appointment with the lovely Lady Marchmont and JR and Friedaquilter . What a beautiful house they have and what a fantastic meal JR had prepared = tomato tarte tatin followed by beautifully sliced (!) fresh pineapple and blueberries. The exclamation mark is for Lady M. Always so good to meet blippers in person - much chat and the obligatory photos. Poor Archie scarpered as soon as the cameras came out! Here we are enjoying mini magnums!
We then wandered back into town to see an excellent exhibition on Victorian photography. Here is a shocking statistic: more photos are taken every two minutes today than were taken in the whole of the 19C!!
Our feet were now protesting so we caught the open topped bus and just sat and enjoyed a tour around this wonderful city.
A quick freshen up and then we were out again - saturday night and everywhere was full of ghost tours, bagpipers, hordes of tourists and by far the worst, squadrons of hens and stags. We did find Greyfriars Bobby, thank goodness, for I remember being totally traumatised by the film as a child. We walked miles and eventually settled in an open air pizza place - real Italian if a bit breezy! Very good for people watching though.
Extras: blipmeet plus Archie and mini magnums; entrance to Waverely station; inside the National Museum.
Edit: sorry the extras seem to have disappeared!
