The Whingers Game

Siedler (Die Siedler von Catan in the 90's; later "Settlers"; now "Catan") where the die rolls are biased and always favour the other players

How else does my nice rock mine/port combo on a 6 fail to produce anything while everyone else's settlements on, supposedly equally likely, 8's are more bountiful than a bountiful thing.... pah.

The Sunday of DellCon and again a strange mixture of the old and the new.  Even our tube copy of Railway Rivals came out (circa 1985).  I got to play Machi Koro - the best, in my opinion, of the SdJ candidates - and quite enjoyed it, although the dice didn't roll right there either.

For those unfamiliar with these games, both Catan and Machi Koro use dice to trigger parts of the game and not as a roll-dice-move-round-board thing. For example, (in the picture) a roll of 5 with two dice would provide yellow and blue with more wood with which to expand their position in the game.  The tiles (cards, in Machi Koro) that respond to rolls around 7 (the most likely number with 2 dice) are the most valuable, and thus the most fought over.
