San Gottardo

Today we began our journey north. The San Gottardo marks the end of Italian speaking Switzerland. We stopped here in the sunshine for lunch and for petrol. For some reason there were lots of Chinese people at the service area.

The tunnel is 17kms long, when we emerged out of the tunnel we discovered we had not only left the Italian language behind, but we had left the sunshine behind also. This was similar to our experience last year when we went through the San Bernardino tunnel, sun on one side, and cloud on the other.

The rest of our journey today continued mostly cloudy, with occasional rain.
