Japonica

This is really Chaenomeles japonica or flowering quince.  They are native to Japan and certainly have a lovely oriental look about them, but have quite vicious thorns.  It flowers mid year (winter) long before the leaves appear so look quite vibrant against the wood of the branches. My extra is just an update on how the wattle is coming along.  If you look closely you will see some buds are starting to open. I had to bring both these specimens inside today as it is very windy.  I have enough trouble with movement as it is!
