Sherborne Abbey

The top photo shows one of the misericords where the monks used to sit behind the choir but what you are seeing is the underside of the seat on which they could sit but look as though they were standing! Below is a photo taken looking down on a magnified mirror reflecting the amazing fan-vaulting at a great height above us (and the side windows). A very clever contraption which we wheeled round to admire both stone and wood carvings in this most beautiful Abbey.
