One way to put a fire out
After a day at the coast we head back to Elne for a celebratory birthday dinner for our friend Jacqui. Sitting on the terrace we see the smoke and flames along the railway line and hear the sirens and flashing lights.
Then two Canadair Fire Bombers fly low overhead and drop their loads on the track before heading back to the sea for another load. Within 20 minutes we have five of them coming round and round dropping their loads on the fire - very close to homes. It was amazing flying and seeing them circle and make their bombing run was very exciting - made more so by the fact this was bombing for good.
In two and a half hours it was over. I could hardly keep my finger off the button, but did have time for a lovely meal! The following day we read that there had also been 200 fire personnel and 55 appliances. A
lot of commuters were late home that day.
